Breast Surgery
As a group, the
Beverly Surgical Associates’ physicians are heavily invested in the
ever-changing field of breast surgery. We participate in very busy
breast clinics at the Hunt Center. In addition to
performing standard excision biopsies and needle localization biopsies,
we have set up the ABBI System; a newly emerging technology for
performing minimally invasive biopsies of mammographically detected
lesions. We also offer experience in sentinel lymph node biopsy to stage
diagnosed breast cancers, thus removing the need for further surgery in
some cases.
We feel that the practice of breast
biopsy surgery is best done in the setting of breast centers where, in
concert with the radiologist on hand, there is sympathetic,
knowledgeable staff that can assist in performing needle aspirations and
core biopsies when needed. This setting enables women to have their
mammograms and ultrasounds, as well as consultation with the breast
surgeon done on the same day; a scheduling convenience and, more
importantly, an often times more emotionally comforting experience.
